Now that it is later into May the flowers around the yard are starting to bloom. In my side yards, here in western Wisconsin, I have these gorgeous purple iris coming up as well as columbine and Lilac flowers. I just love to go outside and see the colorful flowers and to take in the warmer weather. Lately, I have been spending more and more time outside and the fresh air and the spring breeze are just lovely. I have even started drying my laundry out on the line, which is a nice change from my winter laundry routine. Getting out into the yard also inspires me to take photographs. I love being creative and I find that taking pictures of the plants and flowers in my gardens around my house helps me to relax and unwind. Here is a nice close up I took of a blooming purple iris.

I thought that this picture was a nice capture of the iris in bloom just after a rain. If you look closely you can still see the fresh rain drops dripping off of the flower. I also took a nice photograph of the columbine coming up in my side yard garden. I think this flower is so interesting. Growing up in Minnesota I would see this flower often in people's yards and wonder what it is? I am learning this year that columbine grows in a variety of colors. In my pollinator garden I planted yellow and purple columbine. Here is a nice close up of the sunset red columbine growing in my side yard garden.

I thought that this image did a really good job capturing the high reaching columbine in bloom. I love the sunset colors on this flower and the sunny yellow inside bits. It is so pretty and I am happy it comes up every year in my side yard garden. It offers some nice color next to the green hosta and other plants.

Another big blooming star of my yard this year are my 6+ foot tall lilac bushes. These bushes are probably older than me and I just love them! The lilac bushes offer nice privacy from the neighbors and they also smell amazing when they are in bloom. This week several more lilic flowers are blooming and the bees are buzzing around them; pollinating them. It's fun to watch nature do its thing. Here are a couple of nice photographs of the lilacs in my side yard.

These two pictures really capture the beautiful sunny day that we were having here. The sky was so blue and it wasn't too hot out or too humid. These lilacs smell so good! I wish you could smell them now.

Since I have so many flowers in bloom around the yard I thought it would be nice to make a centerpiece for the table. Here is where it started and what I came up with.

Isn't it pretty!? I am no gardening expert, but I do like fresh flowers in bloom on the table! It was fun to be creative with the arrangement and to see how I could also incorporate some of my smaller green house plants. Are you bringing any flowers inside to enjoy this spring? I would love to see your arrangements too! Be sure to message me and share. I am always looking for new ideas.

Another new addition to my flowers around the yard are some flowers I added to my little itty bitty patio. I made sure to incorporate some colorful pink "tubular" flowers because I learned last year that hummingbirds like those. Sure enough it is true because this evening when I was out walking the dog I was walking past the patio and there was a speedy little hummingbird getting nectar from one of the bright pink tubular flowers on the patio. It was so cool! I have to remember to put out some hummingbird feeders too so I can attract some more hummingbirds. They are so speedy fast and fun to see. Here are some patio flower pictures and herbs that I planted in the last couple of weeks. I didn't really have a strict method for choosing what flowers to buy. I just went with what I thought looked good. Also, I really like pink so I bought a bunch of pink flowers too.

These are the type of tubular flowers that the hummingbirds just love! I like the bright pink color!

Aren't these fun, and so colorful?! I forgot how much I missed all the wonderful colors of spring. These are some of my flowers in the yard and on the patio. I also have a small herb garden and I planted tarragon, lavender, sage, flat leaf parsley, oregano, thyme and chives this year. These herbs are still little babies so pictures to come later. Thank you for reading my post on flowers around the yard. I hope you enjoyed reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it and sharing it with you. Let me know your thoughts in the chat or contact section of my website I would love to hear from you. Have a happy end to your May! Happy spring!
